The Emperor’s Quest

To decide who should be the next Emperor, every child in the Kingdom is given a seed, and a challenge…

The Emperor’s Quest is based on an old Chinese folk tale, but with a fresh contemporary feel for the World Premiere of this international show. It promises a song-packed, fun-filled 45 minutes, with live music, mystery, jokes, and a very beautiful garden*.

The Emperor needs to find a successor to his throne! To help him decide who it should be, he gives every child in his Kingdom a seed to grow, and tells them to bring him the results in a year’s time. Ling loves gardening and is very good at it, but even Ling can’t work out the mystery of this particular seed… What can it be?

The Emperor’s Quest follows the trials and tribulations of three friends, Ling, Bobo and Soo. They are all working hard to nurture the seeds they have been given, while dealing with pressure from their families and school: everyone seems convinced that whoever grows the most beautiful flower will be the next Emperor. But, no one can agree on what that flower will be, or how best to nurture it.

*By decree from the Emperor, the audience is invited to take part in some artistic activities before the show: we need to make sure that the Emperor’s garden is looking really beautiful.
